I attend and speak at a lot of marketing shows and one thing everyone avoids answering is how do you actually make money off of your social media campaigns.
I don’t know why people avoid it when it’s simple, but they do. Because of that, here are three ways that I monetize some of my social media campaigns.
1. Building a proper landing page
You can tweet all your want with revenue generating links, but that will only get you a one time sale. If the person doesn’t see every tweet, Facebook mention or other channel where you post, you aren’t optimizing your exposure.
Instead, build a quick blog with posts that work as landing pages for solutions. On these landing page posts, have a newsletter sign up so you can remarket to the people over and over. CPM advertising space so you can make money as people are clicking through your revenue share affiliate products and links.
You’ll also want to include social media sharing icons to help this page get shared more often. By having these landing pages, you aren’t trying to impress Google, but they can rank if you do them well, you are trying to convert social traffic.
By giving them a place to land that answers their questions, shows solutions or products they would be interested in, you give the visitor somewhere they can come back to, shop from and you can make repeat commissions on it (not to mention increase your impressions to generate revenue from ad sales).
2. Test all of your keywords and links
One thing that is easy to measure are your keywords and links. By using free shorteners like Bit.ly, you can shrink your links, keep track of the amount of click-throughs from each channel and keep track of the keyword you used or post that generated the clicks.
Many of them also store the data so you have time frame references and can remember what worked well the previous year to start testing new data again.
I keep track of hashtags I use, colors and image types (by type I mean food, product, colors around the product or food, etc…), time of day and date. This is enough data for me to be able to test and maximize the exposure I can get from using each channel and seeing how it spreads across others.
3. Use tools to monetize, increase and distribute your content
One thing I always love is when I find a tool that can monetize my content and takes away things like distributing content into other sites. What’s even better is when they have free options. Two tools I really enjoy are Viewbix (You are completely missing out if you don’t give this one a try) and OneLoad. Both of these tools make my life easier but in different ways.
Viewbix is perfect if you don’t have your own videos and even better if you do. You can take any of your website videos, or videos which are able to be embedded from major video sites like YouTube and pull them into the studio.
Once in the studio you can add custom skins and a clickable call to action with a landing page you define. (The button takes all links from Affiliate to tracking and direct). Once you are done with the colors and first two calls to action you can add on apps.
The apps include a newsletter sign up for many of the major email service providers, skype, maps and weather, lists (so you can create lists of products or multiple links to wherever you want) and many more. Then all you have to do is save and it provides you with your embed code.
What I like even more about this tool is that when a Viewbix player is shared on most of the main social sites, the majority of the functionality like newsletter signups, clickable links, etc… stay in tact. This gives you a huge reach into those sites and helps you drive more sales, sign ups and increase your followers and fans.
OneLoad used to be part of TubeMogul. This tool is awesome for people who create their own videos and want to save time uploading them to the majority of popular video sharing sites. All you have to do is upload your video and tag it the way you want, then OneLoad goes out and distributes your videos for you.
This saves you a ton of time from having to do it manually on all of the main sites. If you need a solution to take the time out of having to upload to video sites, you should definitely check out OneLoad.
Getting more distribution from your social media
Monetizing and getting more distribution from your social media campaigns is seriously easy. You just have to think about how to track it, what causes reactions and to give the people somewhere to land, digest everything and come back to so that you can make repeat sales, increase impressions and build new followers.
And remember all the tools with free options out there that you can use to monetize the content you already have and to also distribute it for you so that you can spend your time working on other things.
