Why do the negative comments outlast the memory of all the positive feedback and experiences for such a long time? You might be getting a large amount of positive reviews and comments about your book, your product or your latest blog post, but somehow that one negative comment becomes too prominent and overshadows all the other positivity.
Blogging is a very open line of business. A small amount of bloggers publish anonymously but otherwise it is all done with your name and face in the public. You put your thoughts, your advice, your life out there for the whole world to see. The nature and openness of blogging attracts interaction and engagement and with the comment form straight under individual articles you are open for anyone to comment on your work.
A bigger worry is no comments at all
No matter how thick your skin is the rejections and unfavourable words can make you feel uncertain about your own abilities, can cause you to get stuck and might even make you give up on your pursuit. Beginner bloggers who get some bad comments might start beginning to think of themselves as a failure and might even get scared from posting anymore. It is difficult to get used to it, but it is very important not to get influenced too much by the negative comments. It is important not to take it too serious and not to take it all too personal.
No matter what you hear and see people saying online you should still believe in your original idea and the thing you’re working on. A bigger worry than having negative comments is having no people checking out what you are doing and no feedback at all. If people are taking their time to be talking about you in the first place you are doing something right so see that as a positive thing.
Negativity doesn’t only necessary come from social media, forums and online comments, it can come from your closest relatives and friends. For many people it is too difficult to understand and even think about starting something like a blogging project and having big dreams that you are open about, it is so much easier to numb yourself with television, celebrities, gossip and other external environment factors.
Trying to get you to conform
By sharing your passion and dreams with some people they might see you wanting to change and might try to dampen your spirits and quiet you down by telling why this is not such a good idea, why you could never succeed and so much more. Many will try and make you conform to the normality and the averageness. For you it is important to understand that any dream or any change comes with the possibility of a failure. Possibility of a failure is a natural ingredient of working towards a goal, it is a positive thing that drives you.
I wrote recently about the importance of knowing exactly why you are doing what you are doing, knowing why you are blogging or knowing that even no one was reading will still make you write. If you figure out your plan, if you believe in yourself and believe in what you are doing, you will be able to jump through all the hurdles on the way and that belief in your plan is your best defence mechanism against all the negativity out there. So please do not take it all too serious and do not let the negativity take you off your path. Enjoy blogging!
