A blog traffic building tactic that I am very successful with in some of my projects is getting visitors from Twitter search. The idea is to search Twitter for relevant keywords and keyword phrases to your blog topic and then interact with all the people that are tweeting and talking about the topic. You interact with people by @replying to them, or @mentioning them, favoring their tweets or retweeting them. This engagement not only gets their attention, it gets them to be aware of you, your presence and your content, and results in more clicks over to your blog but it also results in more followers and retweets on your Twitter account.
So how do you actually search Twitter? Easiest way is to go to Twitter search itself and use the tool there. Not only can you search for different keywords and keyword phrases, but you can do the advanced search where you can exclude certain words from your search, you can include or exclude the different sentiments, and also target your search by location or language. All together it allows you to be quiet specific and very targeted in terms of audience you are looking to reach.
Another way of searching Twitter can be more productive and fast. The trick is to set yourself up in a tool of your choice (Tweetdeck or Hootsuite for example), find the right search keywords and other targeting and then monitor the columns @replying to people who fit your audience. You can for example remove the tweets you have already read which helps you figure out the new tweets that came in since last time you checked.
Another quick tip is to use the different Twitter search operators. You can use words like “AND” or “OR” within the different words in your search. You can use “-” to exclude certain words. You can search “near:” a city or place of your choice. You can even search “from:username” or “to:username” to target specific competitors or popular personalities.
Depending on the popularity of the keywords and other targeting options you are using you could spend hours doing this daily as it is a great way of getting visitors and spreading the word about yourself.
